The Mexican Mule
In 1857, Surgeon Admiral Sir Thomas Gimlette (if your catching onto his name and the name of the drink, you’re one smart cookie) had a genius idea of adding lime to his daily drink of gin as a way to combat scurvy whenever he was serving at sea for the British Royal Navy. His fellow sailors caught on to what he was doing and began doing the same. Once these sailor’s tours would be over, they would bring their new cocktail knowledge to land where the idea of the Gimlet spread.
